Up until we tested the GoPro camera we've only had good luck with bullet type cameras for motorcycle use. While they took good video, they can be a little involved mounting them on the bike. Wires had to routed, and space in the tankbag had to be set aside for the recorder. Like I said, fine if you don't mind the steps. The GoPro gets around all this by offering video, all through one source.
Mounting the GoPro was super easy. Several different type of mounts are included, so using it right out of the box isn't an issue. We also liked the fact that changing it over to other motorcycles (cars, bicycles, even in the pool...lol) wasn't a huge undertaking. It was also nice that we could change the position on the motorcycle without jumping through a ton of hoops.
Picture quality was good. While not HD quality, it was fine for the TV set. The wide angle lens does a great job of sucking in the scene, and we never had an issue shooting an angle or perspective. We set the camera up to take photos every 5 seconds, which was rather hit and miss. We would often look at them and tell ourselves, "Nice, but if it was like 1/2 second earlier the shot would have been awesome." Expect to toss 90% of the photos.
Quality was great, and the waterproof case actually worked. It was fun to take the camera into the pool and shoot video under water. They say it's waterproof up to 100 feet, and of course we never took it that deep. While saying that, it never leaked.
Overall we REALLY like this video camera. If we had one bad thing to say, it would be that we wished it came with a memory card. Easy fix (we went to Radio Shack and got one for under $10), but we feel this should have been included.
If you're looking for a camera that can be used for something other than just motorcycle riding, we can't see how this wouldn't work. You can use it for anything that comes up, and for every sport. Just a good, solid camera for every occasion.
