The GMAX 46X is one of the best off-road helmets for the money.  We didn't expect much from GMAX, but when the 46X arrived to our store we were shocked by the weight and comfort of this helmet.  The 46X weighed in lighter than any other dirt helmet we had tested; it actually is lighter than several youth models currently on the market.  Riders who are sensitive to heavy helmets will really appreciate the 46X.

The comfort and fit of the 46X was a pleasant surprise as well.  The padding is a soft brushed nylon and feels just as soft as helmets literally 5 times the price.  The helmet shape is moderately oval, but all of our testers found the fit to be comfortable no matter what headshape they were.  The liner is fully removable which is typically not the case for a helmet priced so low.  The liner easily is removed for cleaning or even changing the size of the helmet.

Ventilation is also is exceptional!  It boasts 19 vents!  That makes the 46X the industry leader in terms of number of vents.  Our testers found the real-world airflow level to be very good.  In fact, it out performed helmets costing much more including the majority of big brand names.

The GMAX 46X might be an inexpensive helmet based on it's price, but it's features tell a different story.  Great fit, super-lightweight and top-level ventilation make it a helmet you should consider adding to your gear bag.  It makes a fantastic choice for a back up helmet.  Several our our testers purchaed the 46X after testing and still report back how much they love it.
