Our Evaluation • Suomy Spec-1R Extreme Italia (Green/Red)

Suomy has made yet another leap, coming out with the new and improved Spec.1R, called the EXTREME. This helmet retains all the great qualities of the Spec.1R, to include the light weight (1200gr - 3.2lbs). Helmet Harbor Weight Chart

The Extreme is without a doubt one of the best helmets on the market today. The venting has been improved, with the addition of a center, forward facing vent. This vent is very effective at forcing air inside the helmet. This is a high flow helmet. The top spoiler has been redesigned to allow better air flow, and keeps the helmet planted at speed. During our in-house tests, the Extreme felt solid at more than 150 MPH.

As always, the graphics on the Suomy helmets are far above any other on the market. Fit and finish is top notch, and we have yet to find a helmet with even a slight defect. The standard clear visor has also been improved. It's surface has been treated with a slight mirror coating, to fight glare. No other helmet on the market offers this option.

The shape is identical to that of the Spec.1R, and fits a wide range of head shapes well. The dual foam liner is also used on the Extreme, and allows for a very comfortable fit. Once this helmet goes on, you forget its there. This dual foam system is the same used by Arai. When compared to the excellent Spec.1R liner, the Extreme's liner is two steps above. No expense has been spared.

Todd used the Suomy Extreme throughout the 2005 race season, and felt it was a great helmet for the track. In the hotter months of the season, he never felt it didn't do it's best to keep his head cool.
