The CL-31 is HJC's solution to affordability in a ventilated 3/4 helmet.  It has many features that makes it worth considering for your next 3/4 helmet.

The CL-31 features a plush Nylex interior which is very comfortable.  Both the top comfort liner and cheek pads are very soft and contour to the face very well.  It is a neutral shaped interior which fits just about any head well.  The only downside is the liner is not removable to be cleaned or to allow custom fitting.   In the helmets defense, the liner's plushness should make changing padding out an non-issue.  Our testers rated the overall comfort very high. 

The venting comes straight from the popular CL-14 full-face helmet, which does an good job of flowing air to keep you cool.  There are two front air intakes that do a good job of introducing air into the helmet and an exhaust vent to extract the hot air.  Our helmet testers seemed to agree that the CL-31 vented as well as any other 3/4 helmet they had tested.  The intake vents are low profile and didn't cause any noise issues in our tests.  The helmet is fairly quiet and that should allow easy electronic helmet comminucations.  The ear pockets in the cheek pads are very deep and will allow even the thickest speakers to be installed with no problems.

The CL-31 comes with a 3 snap peak visor to block the sun.  This can easily be removed allowing you to ride without or also allows you to add an optional 3 or 5 snap visor for additional eye protection.  Speaking of safety, the CL-31 is DOT rated.  If you need a Snell rated helmet, you might want to look at the HJC AC-3.   The CL-31 looks to provide plenty of safety at a very reasonable price. 

Overall, we think the HJC CL-31 is a nice helmet and it fits very well due to it's quality liner.  The airflow is above average and should keep the riders head cool.  We like the abilty to easily add speaker into the deep ear pockets and think the helmet will do well for those riders looking to add a communication system.
