As with all the Suomy product line, this helmet features many of the same bells and whistles as Arai. The liner is very soft, and is designed with dual layer foam. A softer foam next to the riders face, with a slightly firmer foam next to the Styrofoam. This allows the liner to conform to the riders face offering a very contoured fit.
The liner is fully removable, so fitting adjustments can be made. Of course it also allows for easier cleaning. Air flow is excellent, and contoured shell makes for a VERY planted feel while traveling at speed.
If spending a little more doesn't bother you, this helmet is an excellent buy. While more expensive than our top-pick (HJC AC-3), this helmet excels in the comfort department. There's no way to compare a dual layer foam liner helmet, to single layer. The fit and comfort is superior.
The big question is; is the extra $120.00 worth it? Simple, if you go on long trips, and want a helmet that excels in the fit department, the answer would be yes. While the AC-3 isn't uncomfortable, several hours into a ride, you will tell the difference. As look at the unique shell design. The fins designed into the shell (rear), work well at keeping the helmet planted.
The Nomad also has a slight advantage in the venting department. The Suomy system is very straight forward. Forward facing vents directing air into Styrofoam channels inside. The exhaust vents are located slightly lower on the rear of the helmet. This allows the air to stay inside the helmet longer, providing additional cooling.
Unlike it's full face brothers, we consider the Nomad to be quiet. Everyone has a different noise threshold, but when compared to other 3/4 models, the Suomy excels.
Overall, we give this helmet our top score. While the price is a little hard to swallow, similar helmets cost over $100 more. If your mind was set on an Arai, or a Shoei, this helmet is twice the helmet.
