Our Evaluation • Shoei J-Wing Pearl Grey

The J-Wing is another example of Shoei trying to plug the holes in it's product line.  In the recent past, they only offered a single 3/4 helmet option, and if you wanted a visor, you bought an after market solution.  After seeing how well the Scorpion EXO 200, and the HJC AC-3 were doing in the marketplace, the J-Wing was born.

Where does the J-Wing fit in?  Well, if you've had great luck in the past with Shoei products, expect the same well built helmet.  Shoei has one of the best visor removal systems, and the quality of their visors in top-notch.  The liner is very high quality, and comfortable.

The venting system might look familiar to you if you remember the discontinued Z-II full-face.  The vents open to the rear, exposing holes leading to internal channels.  During our testing phase we found the J-Wing to vent above average, and right on par with the Scorpion and HJC models.

There is not a standard visor option, but we've found that this is a very little used option.  Most that buy a helmet that has a shield visor, use this visor set-up 99% of the time.

CONCLUSION:  We like the J-Wing.  The liner is slightly above both the HJC and Scorpion models, and the venting works.  We would have liked to have seen a slightly lower price, but the price difference may be justified for those looking for a helmet at the top of the food chain.
